Unit 7 logic assignment

Unit 7 logic assignment

How was this track made and how did you get the results?

This track was made by using logic. Logic is pro is a digital audio work space which
allows you to create music. The end result was achieved by using logic pro
and using all the resources that logic pro had to offer some sound where already
on the workstation and I recorded  the piano sound to create the audio which i
desired. It was a very fun but daunting experience as it was new to me but once
you got the hang of it it was a breeze to use

What does the outcome imply and how did it effect the outcome of the track?

The tracks outcome showed my understanding of how to use logic pro and how to
space out the audio to keep in time and rhythm so it was not chaotic it was smoother
to listen to. This made the outcome more successful as it had a bit everything in the
track making it much smoother

What will I do differently next time?

I will spend more time on my project making sure it sound good and record more
vocals and instruments putting more of my own mark to it. The way that I am going
achieve better results is doing a bit more research with more audio and talking to
the lectures. i will also get my peers to listen to see if people like it as this will
increase the chances of more people enjoying my music to put in main stream

Unit 5 : Synthesizers

Synthesizers

What are Synthesizers?

Synthesizers are instruments that are electric and frequently played by a keyboard and creates many sounds by using science with different frequency.

What as the telharmoniun and how does it work to make the sound?

The telharmonium was the one of the early models of musical instruments which generated sound electronically. This musical instrument used rotating electromagnetic generators to create impulses to create these sounds. It was even able to transmit music over the telephone network of the the time (but caused massive interference and was stopped shortly after) and this made the instrument unsuccessful.

Telharmonium | Electric, Dynamophone ...

What was the most famous Synthesizer from the period 1918 and 1939?
What was so unusual about it?

The most famous synthesizer from 1918 and 1939 was a theremin now how a theremin worked was it was a box with a radio tubes that would fluctuate from two wave lengths which where a higher pitch making it harder to hear as the both produced lower frequencies in which the vibrations where different. The way they changed the pitch was to move the antenna at the  back of the box. What makes this unusual  it filtered all the sounds which weren't wanted which allowed different about six octaves. this instrument is a very hard instrument to play

Leon Termen and his Theremin-Harmonium. New York 1920. – 120 Years of Electronic Music

What are the different technique used with synthesis what why are they important?

  • subtractive: Tones are created by taking away /subtracting unwanted sounds to create the perfect sound that you desire
  • additive: This technique is all about making sounds from scratch controlling the frequency and amplitude this is to create the unusual sound to specification
  • fm: This is to watch the frequency of one wave length to the another this makes it possible to create complex waves
  • virtual/physical modelling: This it to push the boundaries of real time and create dynamic expression without using samples
  • granulare: This is used to make defined sound and modern film and video game scores helps electronic musicians push boundaries. It underpins the time stretching tool found in daws.

What is logics pro device which is called alchemy and the functions of this tool?
What does it have to offer?

The Alchemy on logic pro is a sample based synthesizer in which you can manipulate and resynthesize sounds using a wide range of sound . It give music samples a new lease of life ad creating a difference to transitioning to new sources.

Unit 5: Les Paul

 Les Paul

who was les Paul?

Les Paul was an inventor and a musician. A legend in music industry.

What was Les Paul famous for?

Les Paul was famous for changing the music industry. This was how he did it was inventing a solid body electric guitar, multi track recording, echo and overdubbing.

How did Les Paul invent the electric guitar?

Les Paul invented a solid body electric guitar. How he did this was in 1941 he created the first guitar called the log and how he achieve this was he used 4 by 4 pine attached to epiphone neck to it he made pickups and mounted them on wood and a vibrola tail piece in which he tied them all together creating the log. Then as time went on he came up with more ideas the second time he did something different which this included a rail way track. How he did this was using a short length of steel railroad rail and two rail ways spikes and used guitar string and tied them to the spikes with a nut so the string weren't to flat to create room so they could be strung a with. the electric guitar he  used a wire from a telephone put it to a radio where he relized  there was no feed back and he had more control of the guitar.

How did Les Paul invent the multi track recording?

Les Paul invented multi track recording and how he did was by layering multiple discs together so they where alined however this was not  functional until Les Paul and ampex redeveloped it to make it work more efficient.

the source i used was https://www.les-paul.com/multi-track-recording/

What was the number one track that was a hit in 1951 and how was it recorded?

how high is the moon and it was recorded by amp ex 300

Unit 5: Sampling in music

 sampling in music

what is sampling?

Sampling in music is when sections of sounds are recorded then reused for different music.

my source is https://abbeyroadinstitute.co.uk/blog/the-art-of-sampling-in-music/

when did artist start to use sampling as a technique?

The earliest time sampling was used was 1940 and the artist which was the first person to use sampling as a technique was Pierre Shaeffer he used sampling in symhonie pour un homme suel

what are the two early devices which where used to sample and how they sampled?

1. The first device which was used for sampling was The Chamberlin which Harry Chamberlin invented. The Chamberlin was a keyboard in which had tape loops which was already recorded and there where plenty recording making the Chamberlin resourceful of it time and it was easy to swap between sounds when needed

2. The second device which was used for sampling was The Mellotron which was invented by Bill Fransen. The mellotron had the same concept as the Chamberlin.Bill improved the device making it better than the Chamberlin and adding a modern aspect to the Mellotron. The way this device generated sound was through analouge recording and audio tape.

what are two example of music that use sampling and how does this effect the nature of the music?

1. The first track that I'm using as an example is 19 by Paul Hardcastle and the effect the sample has in this song was to tell a story which is true and to make the listener feel for the person who they are singing about as Vietnam war was a historical event which affected a lot of people.

2. the second track that has also used sample is one day by Bakermat and this again is a historical event which caused a lot of harm to a certain group of people which was not right but at the time it was socially acceptable  by using the speech that Martin Luther King gave. It has brought a new lease to life showing the younger generation that racism is wrong

what is copyright and how does is affect musicians when sampling?

Copyright is a legal protection to ones personal belong making it harder for people to copy creative work or share without the permission of the creator.
Copyright affects musicians when it come to sampling as the orignal creator may say no and that mean is cannot be used as its a legal protection to work however when they agree they can get loyalties as someone has use what they made.

Unit 5 : Phil Spector

 Phil Spector

Who is Phil Spector?

Phil Spector was an American music producer.

What was Phil Spector known for?

Phil Spector is known for his work The wall of sound. Which he used new techniques which made Phil Spector high demand with alot of artist and bands wanting him to produce for them
such as Ike, Tina Turner, John Lennon, The Beatles.

this is a reliable source according to academia stackexchange

What was the technique Phil Spector used?

To achieve the wall of sound what Phil Spector did was recording multiple musicians at the same time in a small room which created a wall of sound with no interruptions from other noise sources. Phil Spector used what was round him which puts more emotion into any song.

this is a reliable source according to biasly

What lessons can we take from Phil Spector?

The lessons we can learn from Phil Spector is to use the studio to its full potential what may look like chaos is actually a music master-peace to over dub the instruments making them more predominate in the song this creates more feeling in a song.

this is a reliable source as he works in the music field

What was the dark side to Phil Spector?

The dark side to Phil Spector was he was convicted of murdering Lana Clarkson using a gun which alot of past artist did bring up who have closely worked with Spector in the past. These action unfortunately  have tainted his technique causing pain too many people who worked with him. It is very hard to separate his art from him being the artist as his actions caused a life to be lost.
