Unit Eight level Three evaluation.
The band Seen project was to do an EP containing for four to six songs and to do videos for them. At the start of the project, we had three songs ready to go. Unfortunately, personal circumstances stopped us from starting the project immediately. I had to take charge of the project splitting the songs in half so Sophie could do My Heart Is A Rose and I took two as I felt like I could achieve them within the time limit we had. I took My Mind Never Sleeps and Spirits.
While doing the research I came upon remixes of other songs which gave me an idea which changed the projects path. Using my skills in Logic Pro to create two backing tracks doing this I was able to complete the backing track before the deadlines on the Gantt chart. I tried a couple of loops alongside bass and drums session players: these were used in both songs creating two electronic dance songs (which was the goal). My strength here was knowing the genre and what the songs were about. This led me to rewrite both songs. This was also showing my songwriting skills. After this it made recording my vocals in the studio better as I was ready being prepared for the tasks in hand as evidenced on my portfolio.
Then there were the videos. I had completed them in half term; this was to optimize my time wisely. This was to give me more time on the songs themselves and not rushing. Doing so led me to be able to write another song for our project using my son’s voice extracted from a video. I the used Quick Sampler to manipulate and sequence Tony’s voice (tony is my son) into the track. Doing electronic dance music, we did not need to wait for the anyone in the studio for backing track optimizing our time keeping.
Each song was mixed and mastered on the Tuesday and Wednesday they were out as vocals were done on Fridays this was very good time management making the deadline less daunting.
Our weakness for this project was concentrating on the problem at hand being very easily distracted which caused delays. My personal weakness was not asking for help in the studio when I needed it. I did miss days off the project - for personal reasons - but even with this time off and other unforeseen circumstances we were still able to finish our four songs. Three of them are on YouTube and in a playlist. On SoundCloud I was able to put up the backing tracks showing the growth in my work from this experience. I have learned I work better on my own accomplishing more.
The next project I do I will be using the Gantt chart as I found this a very good tool to have. To have more confidence to ask for help. To be able to grow as an artist, stepping out of my comfort zone.
