Unit 4 Musical context

 Musical context

unit 4

When was this song created and why was it created and what traditions did we have?

The song god save the queen was made by the sex pistols. The song was created on  May 27th in 1977 and it was a punk song. This song was created because the band where fed up with the way the english race was being mistreated and this was to do with the politics at the time. what was going on at this point was it was queen  silver jubilee. This put lots of economic hardship on the British people.

What was the song trying to put across to whom may listen?

God save the queen was punk and in the 1977 authorities weren't taking the common man in to consideration when it came to throwing a big jubilee and society was suffering with unemployment.
The sex pistols even protested by going on a boat trip down the river Thames. there where strikes going on for minim wage. They where trying to show the wealthy that common people are suffering through who's expense?

How was 'god save the queen' recorded where was it first heard was it live?

The song had to be rerecorded as the lyrics where very controversial at the time and they release the song on virgin records when it was on radio they would not have the title of the song and on bbc it was actually banned. Again it was very controversial song as it was anti monarchy and in the 70s the royal family was big which it as always been big.

What genre was 'god save the queen'?

The sex pistols was a punk group making 'god save the queen' a punk/rock  song

How does it make the listener feel and how did it relate to the ones who where listening?

It made me feel angry as all the authority care about is money we are excepted to look pretty in a dirty society hence the lyrics were the flowers in a dustbin which times have changed but people haven't. were the future but with all the pain and suffering there is no future that's whys it is repeated to really put that point of view across.

What was the relationship between politic and this song?

The song itself is a message to not follow the propaganda that politicians put out  what they tell you how to feel "Don't be told what you want, you want and don't be told what you want to need". this was a message from the common man
